WILLEMSTAD – Prime Minister of Curaçao Gilmar Pisas officially opened the 5th Caribbean Conference Curaçao 2026 on Saturday, May 23, during a ceremony held at the Renaissance Wind Creek Curaçao Resort.

The international conference brings together professionals, experts and specialists in radiology, radiotherapy and medical imaging from across the Caribbean and other parts of the world.

The event is being organized by the Caribbean Association of Radiographers and Radiation Therapists and Medical Image Practitioners in collaboration with NASKHO.

Over the course of three days, participants will discuss innovations, modern technologies and improvements in patient care within the healthcare sector.

In his opening address, Prime Minister Pisas emphasized that radiology and radiotherapy have become central pillars of modern healthcare systems. He stated that early disease detection, advanced technology and investment in preventive healthcare are essential for ensuring sustainable healthcare systems, particularly for Small Island Developing States such as Curaçao.

The prime minister also highlighted the rapid technological developments within the sector, including artificial intelligence, adaptive radiotherapy and the digitalization of medical care.

Despite the technological progress, Pisas stressed that people remain the most important factor in healthcare.

“Technology alone does not improve healthcare. People do,” the prime minister stated during his speech.

He further emphasized the importance of knowledge exchange, regional cooperation and continued professional education in strengthening patient care throughout the Caribbean region.

At the conclusion of his remarks, Prime Minister Pisas officially declared the 5th Caribbean Conference Curaçao 2026 open.
