WILLEMSTAD – Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas has received an official invitation to represent Curaçao at the presidential transfer of power in Costa Rica, taking place on May 7 and 8.

The inauguration ceremony will be held during a special session of Costa Rica’s parliament and will mark the beginning of the country’s new government term for the 2026–2030 period.

During the ceremony, Laura Fernández Delgado will be sworn in as Costa Rica’s 50th president. Her inauguration will also make history, as she becomes only the second woman to hold the office in the country’s history.

According to the Curaçao government, the event underscores the importance of democratic values and continuity in governance, highlighting the peaceful transfer of power as a cornerstone of democratic institutions.

Officials also say Pisas’ participation reflects Curaçao’s intention to strengthen diplomatic relations and cooperation with Costa Rica, a regional partner with growing ties to the Caribbean.

The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for bilateral discussions and to further reinforce regional cooperation on political and economic matters.
