WILLEMSTAD – Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas attended a certificate ceremony recognizing a group of young participants who successfully completed the pilot "Fisherman and Boat Builder Training Program," an initiative designed to prepare young people for careers in Curaçao's maritime sector.
The pilot project was organized by the Federation of United Cooperatives in Production (FKUP) with support from Reda Sosial and the Universidad Integral del Caribe y América Latina (UNICAL).
The program combined classroom instruction with practical, hands-on training, equipping participants with skills in boat construction, maritime safety, and personal development.
According to the government, the initiative aims to create employment opportunities for young people while helping preserve Curaçao's maritime traditions and strengthening the island's fishing industry.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Pisas highlighted the importance of investing in vocational education and training that prepares young people for careers in sectors that are essential to Curaçao's economy and cultural heritage.
The government said initiatives such as the pilot program not only improve employment prospects for the island's youth but also contribute to safeguarding traditional maritime knowledge and supporting the long-term development of Curaçao's fishing and boat-building industries.
The successful completion of the pilot program marks an important step toward expanding vocational training opportunities that combine technical skills with personal development, creating new pathways to employment for young Curaçaoans.
