Part of that conversation included the Kingdom sports tournament currently being held in Curaçao, an initiative aimed at strengthening ties between young athletes from across the Dutch Kingdom while promoting teamwork, discipline and personal development.

During the meeting, Prince Pieter-Christiaan shared details about youth sports programs developed by Laureus within the Kingdom and highlighted recent research showing that structured sports activities combined with mentorship can help prevent young people from entering the criminal justice system.

The findings, according to the discussions, underline the broader social impact of sports beyond physical development, particularly in creating positive environments for vulnerable youth.

Prime Minister Pisas and the prince also exchanged views on how sports can be further integrated into social policy and youth development strategies in Curaçao.

Beyond sports, the conversation also touched on sustainability and long-term development.

Prince Pieter-Christiaan emphasized his strong personal interest in sustainability and durable development, and expressed his continued appreciation for Curaçao, its natural environment and its community.

According to the government, the prince said he maintains a strong connection with the island and remains invested in its future.

The meeting served as an opportunity to exchange perspectives on youth policy, sports and sustainable community development, while exploring areas for future collaboration between Kingdom-wide initiatives and local Curaçao programs.

The government said the dialogue reflects the growing recognition of sports as an important instrument for social inclusion, prevention and opportunity-building for Curaçao’s youth.
