WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Police Force carried out enforcement operations on King’s Day against illegally parked vehicles in the busy districts of Punda and Otrobanda, warning motorists that vehicles obstructing traffic would be towed immediately.

Police said the operation was aimed at maintaining traffic flow during one of the island’s busiest public celebrations, when large crowds and increased vehicle movement put extra pressure on the city center.

According to authorities, no exceptions were made for drivers who attempted to return to their vehicles after parking in prohibited or obstructive areas.

Several tow trucks were deployed across multiple locations to remove vehicles that were blocking roads, intersections or access points.

The police emphasized that the enforcement action was necessary to prevent congestion and ensure that emergency services and regular traffic could continue moving safely through the crowded downtown areas.

King’s Day celebrations traditionally draw large numbers of people to Punda and Otrobanda, with street events, music, food stalls and public gatherings creating heavy traffic and limited parking availability.

Authorities had previously urged motorists to use designated parking areas and avoid stopping in unauthorized zones.

Police reminded drivers that improper parking during major public events can create safety risks and significantly disrupt traffic circulation.

The enforcement operation forms part of broader public safety measures during King’s Day festivities, with additional police presence in key areas to monitor crowds, maintain order and manage traffic throughout the celebrations.
