WILLEMSTAD – Two men have been arrested on suspicion of illegal firearm possession following a police chase that ended in a crash on Santa Rosaweg. Officers seized an automatic weapon and a high-caliber pistol during the operation.
According to the Curaçao Police Force (KPC), the incident occurred on Tuesday, July 21, at approximately 1:31 p.m. A police patrol driving along Kaya Ambishon noticed a vehicle with two occupants behaving suspiciously.
Officers ordered the driver to stop, but the driver refused, prompting police to initiate a pursuit. The chase continued along Santa Rosaweg before the fleeing vehicle crashed.
One of the suspects fled on foot, while the second remained at the crash scene and was immediately taken into custody. During a search of the vehicle, officers discovered an automatic firearm, which was confiscated.
Police then launched a foot pursuit of the fleeing suspect. During the chase, officers were forced to discharge their service weapon, striking the suspect before taking him into custody.
A subsequent search of the surrounding area led officers to recover a high-caliber pistol, which investigators believe may have been thrown from the vehicle during the pursuit. That firearm was also seized.
As part of the ongoing investigation, judicial search warrants were executed at properties on Kaya Aurora and Kaya Sparta, where officers confiscated additional items considered important to the investigation.
The suspects were identified only by their initials as A.R., 22, and I.F., 26. Both men were born in Curaçao.
They were brought before an assistant public prosecutor, who ordered their continued detention while the investigation continues.
