Local, Police, | By Correspondent April 7, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Police recorded a series of incidents over the Easter weekend, including a shooting, a vehicle pursuit ending in an arrest, and multiple traffic-related cases, according to spokesperson Imro Zwerwer of the Korps Politie Curaçao.

The most serious incident occurred on Thursday night into Friday in the Kaya Pidi Skina area. Around 11:11 p.m., police received multiple reports of a shooting involving occupants of two vehicles firing at each other. Shortly afterward, a man with a gunshot wound arrived at the Curaçao Medical Center, where he sought medical treatment on his own.

In a separate incident, police arrested a man following a pursuit that began near Kaminda Don Martina and ended in Buena Vista. Officers initially attempted to stop the driver for a routine check but observed that he may have been carrying multiple firearms. The suspect fled, prompting a chase. He was eventually stopped and arrested in Buena Vista, and his vehicle was confiscated.

Authorities also responded to a traffic accident with injuries on Montilonesweg, as well as a hit-and-run on Frederickstraat, where a driver left the scene after a collision. In the early morning hours, a vehicle was reported stolen from the Festival Center after being parked there by its owner.

Police were further deployed to Koraal Specht following reports of a disturbance of public order and carried out patrols and checks in tourist areas and on beaches.

Despite the incidents, police described the overall Easter weekend as relatively calm, with no major disruptions reported. Traffic controls were conducted on multiple days, resulting in several fines.

Authorities also noted that enforcement of the 2026 motor vehicle tax has not yet begun. However, drivers can still be fined for expired inspection documents or lack of valid insurance. Checks on motor vehicle tax compliance will be announced at a later stage.
