WILLEMSTAD – Police in Curaçao are set to launch a new phase in their fight against illegal firearms, introducing a system that allows residents to report weapon possession anonymously, with the possibility of receiving a reward if the information leads to concrete results.
The initiative follows a recent voluntary gun surrender campaign, during which the Korps Politie Curaçao reported that 38 illegal firearms were handed in by members of the public. In addition, authorities have already seized 17 weapons this year through inspections and house searches.
With the new approach, police aim to intensify efforts to track down firearms still circulating on the island. Officials emphasize that every tip could play a crucial role in preventing violent incidents.
The police are encouraging the community to cooperate, stressing that public involvement is essential in improving safety and reducing gun-related crime in Curaçao.
