WILLEMSTAD – Police, in collaboration with the Project Team for Supervision and Enforcement (PTH) and the Public Prosecution Service, carried out targeted traffic controls on April 15 focusing on red-light violations and improperly secured cargo on heavy vehicles.

The operation took place at multiple locations across the island, including the intersection of Nijlweg and Frater Radulphusweg, Weg naar Westpunt near Suli fruit and vegetable stand, and Nijlweg near Staal Antillen.

In total, 46 vehicles were inspected, resulting in 34 fines for various traffic violations. Among the offenses, nine fines were issued to drivers of heavy vehicles transporting uncovered loads, including trucks carrying loose materials without proper covering.

Police also issued four fines for running red lights.

Additional violations included driving without a valid license, missing or invalid documentation such as insurance, road tax, or inspection cards, and failure to wear a seatbelt. Several vehicles were also cited for issues related to license plates and windshield compliance.

As part of the enforcement action, five vehicles were impounded and transported to the police station in Mahuma due to lack of valid documentation.

Authorities stated that these types of targeted controls will continue as part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and ensure compliance with traffic regulations on Curaçao.
