Police Issue 42 Fines During Traffic Control in Bandabou

Local, Police, | By Correspondent April 7, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Police issued 42 fines during a traffic control operation in the Bandabou region on Sunday afternoon, as part of broader enforcement efforts targeting road safety and public order.

According to the Korps Politie Curaçao, a total of 76 vehicles were inspected during the operation, which was carried out by officers from the Barber district. The checks took place along Kaminda Vikto Bartholomeus and the Weg naar Westpunt, near Kaya Boksit and Daniel.

Authorities said the operation combined general traffic enforcement with monitoring of nearby beaches, which were busy with visitors and tourists.

Most violations involved missing or invalid documents, including inspection certificates, driver’s licenses, vehicle tax, and insurance. Drivers were also fined for not wearing seatbelts and for vehicles lacking a front license plate. In addition, several citations were issued for excessively tinted windows.

The issue of tinted windows remains a recurring point of discussion on Curaçao. While regulations clearly state that windshields may not have dark film and front side windows must allow sufficient light to pass through, many vehicles continue to operate with darker tint. Enforcement is often limited to periodic controls, contributing to confusion among drivers.

During the operation, police also maintained a presence at nearby beaches. A number of individuals received warnings for playing music at excessive volume.

Police indicated that such controls will continue in the coming period as part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and maintain public order across the island.
