WILLEMSTAD – Police are investigating a shooting incident early Monday morning in the Groot St. Joris area after a vehicle was hit by gunfire in what appears to have been a targeted attack.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place along the Weg naar Groot St. Joris when the driver of a Toyota Yaris was leaving his home and driving out of his yard.

The victim reportedly noticed another vehicle approaching and flashing its lights.

Shortly after, the driver continued onto the public road, but at a certain point the second vehicle reportedly collided with the rear of the Toyota Yaris.

Moments later, shots were fired in the direction of the Yaris driver.

The driver managed to flee the scene.

Despite the vehicle sustaining multiple bullet impacts, no serious physical injuries were reported.

However, the driver is said to have suffered a graze wound to the face, apparently caused by a bullet fragment or shattered material during the shooting.

The suspects fled immediately after the attack and remain at large.

When officers from the Korps Politie Curaçao arrived at the scene, they recovered four shell casings and several broken pieces of vehicle lighting on the road.

Police noted that one of the striking details in the investigation is that the broken light fragments found at the scene appear to belong to the rear section of another vehicle, and not to the victim’s Toyota Yaris, whose lights were reportedly intact.

That discovery could provide investigators with an important lead in identifying the suspect vehicle.

All evidence from the scene has been collected for forensic examination.

Authorities have not yet released information on a possible motive, but the circumstances suggest the victim may have been deliberately targeted.

The investigation remains ongoing.
