WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao police arrested a 33-year-old man Thursday morning following an alleged domestic violence incident in which a woman was assaulted and her scooter was set on fire.
The Police Central Dispatch received a report at approximately 7:15 a.m. on October 8 that a man was assaulting his partner on Bramendiweg.
When officers arrived, they encountered a woman who told police that she had been involved in an argument with her partner shortly before their arrival. According to her statement, the man assaulted her during the confrontation.
Police said the suspect also allegedly set the woman’s scooter on fire.
Officers arrested the suspect at the scene. Police identified him by the initials O.J.L.P., a 33-year-old man born in Venezuela.
The suspect was brought before an assistant public prosecutor, who ordered that he remain in custody pending further investigation.
Police are continuing their investigation into the alleged assault and destruction of property.
