Police and Prison Officer Trainees Complete Intensive Training Program

Local, Police, | By Correspondent April 23, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – New classes of police recruits and Penitentiaire Inrichtingswerkers (PIW) have completed an intensive two-week training program and have now officially begun their formal education.

The training, held from April 7 to April 17, focused on building both physical and mental resilience. Participants started their days as early as 5:00 a.m. and continued into the evening, taking part in activities such as mountain climbing, blindfolded exercises, drills, endurance training, and obstacle courses.

Under the supervision of instructors from the IBT (Arrest and Support Team), the program emphasized discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. Trainees were continuously pushed to test their physical limits and mental endurance throughout the sessions.

One of the key exercises took place at Playa Kanoa, where participants worked in groups to build a raft and take it out to sea. The activity combined theory and practical application, requiring recruits to apply previously learned techniques in a real-world setting.

According to organizers, the intensive training period is designed to prepare participants for the demands of their ongoing education and future roles. Following the completion of the program, the new classes officially started their training curriculum on April 20.
