PNP Receives Preliminary Reform Report as Party Seeks New Direction

Local, Politics, | By Press release June 4, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The Partido Nashonal di Pueblo (PNP) has received a preliminary report from its “Komishon Rumbo pa Progreso” (Commission for Progress), a body established to evaluate the party’s functioning and propose reforms aimed at strengthening its future direction.

According to a press release issued by the party, the commission formally presented its preliminary findings to the PNP Executive Board during a meeting held on June 1. The commission was created following a decision by the party leadership in December 2025 to conduct a comprehensive review of the organization and identify areas requiring improvement.

The commission was tasked with three main objectives: optimizing the functioning of the party, analyzing the effectiveness of its statutory bodies and their connection with the community, and developing an action plan to better prepare the party for future elections.

The review committee consists of Joan Brewster, Angelo Reenis, Maria Liberia-Peters, Imro van Wilgen, Riglène Cristina, Medgar Isebia, and Stanley Kwidama. The name “Commission for Progress” was deliberately chosen to signal that the party is focused on moving forward rather than standing still, according to the statement.

PNP said the commission took into account the party’s long history and organizational structure, stressing that any modernization efforts must respect the foundations on which the party was built. The commission also consulted various party organs and groups as part of its evaluation process.

The party noted that concerns about the functioning of both the leadership and the organization were openly raised during a General Membership Meeting held on May 11. Members reportedly expressed a range of concerns and expectations regarding the future of the party. The commission’s work was intended to identify those issues and provide recommendations for addressing them.

Following discussions within the Executive Board, the preliminary report was also presented to party members during an informational general meeting, allowing members to provide comments and feedback before the commission completes its final report.

According to PNP leadership, some aspects of the review still require additional work and analysis before the final recommendations are submitted. Party officials expressed confidence that implementing the commission’s recommendations will help place PNP on a renewed path toward growth and revitalization.

The initiative comes as PNP seeks to strengthen its internal organization and position itself for future electoral challenges in Curaçao’s political landscape.
