PNP Questions Parliament’s Handling of Council of State Delegation

Local, | By Correspondent February 6, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Political party Partido Nashonal di Pueblo (PNP) has raised sharp questions about how Parliament recently received a delegation from the Raad van State, citing organizational and protocol shortcomings.

In a letter to Parliament Speaker Fergino Brownbill, PNP faction leader Ruthmilda Larmonie-Cecilia points to what she describes as avoidable errors during the visit. Among the issues highlighted are that the visiting delegation was kept waiting upon arrival and that key members of the Parliamentary Committee on Kingdom Relations—or their deputies—were absent at the start of the meeting.

According to Larmonie-Cecilia, the lapses go beyond logistics and reflect poorly on the institution as a whole. She argues that such shortcomings undermine not only the image of Parliament, but also Curaçao’s standing within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

PNP is seeking clarification on how the visit was prepared, whether the attending Members of Parliament had sufficient subject-matter knowledge, and which protocol was followed. The party is also asking what concrete measures will be taken to ensure that future visits by Kingdom, international, or other official delegations are handled with the level of professionalism expected of Curaçao’s legislature.

With the questions now formally addressed to the Speaker, the matter is expected to prompt further discussion within Parliament about protocol, preparation, and institutional responsibility during high-level visits.
