WILLEMSTAD – The faction of the Partido Nashonal di Pueblo (PNP) has noted with immense sadness the powerful earthquake that struck our neighboring country, Colombia, leaving behind destruction and forcing authorities to declare a state of national disaster. In these moments, our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have lost loved ones, the injured, and all who have lost their homes.
Curaçao and Colombia share a close bond of commerce, tourism, medical care, history, culture, and strong family ties. In Curaçao, we have a large community of Colombian brothers and sisters who work hard daily and contribute to the development of our country. In these times, we share their worries and their pain.
As a party anchored in the principles of Christian democracy, the PNP upholds the value of the common good. Solidarity knows no borders, just as with our Venezuelan brothers and sisters. When a neighboring and brotherly country goes through such a major crisis, we as Yu di Kòrsou (Curaçaoans) must show our greatness, empathy, and humanity.
The PNP Faction asks the people of Curaçao to keep the Colombian people in their prayers and urges our community to support humanitarian initiatives that may arise to send aid to the affected areas.
We hope that strength, courage, and unity will guide the Colombian people through the difficult process of reconstruction. Curaçao stands together with Colombia.
