WILLEMSTAD – Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas is inviting the Curaçao community to come together for this year’s Autonomy Day celebrations, which will be held under the theme “Caribbean United in Excellence.”

The activities begin Friday, October 9, when Curaçao hosts the Caribbean United in Excellence Summit, bringing together several leaders from across the Caribbean for discussions aimed at strengthening regional ties and cooperation.

The summit forms part of the program surrounding Autonomy Day and is intended to emphasize Curaçao’s position within the wider Caribbean region and the opportunities that can emerge through closer collaboration.

Among the regional leaders arriving in Curaçao for the summit are Jamaica Prime Minister Andrew Holness and Suriname Vice President Gregory Rusland, who were welcomed to the island by representatives of the Curaçao government.

The celebrations will continue on Saturday, October 10, Curaçao’s Autonomy Day, beginning with an official ceremony in the morning.

Later that evening, the public is invited to join the national celebration at Brionplein in Otrobanda.

Pisas is encouraging residents to participate in the activities and celebrate Curaçao’s autonomy together, while this year’s theme places particular emphasis on Caribbean unity and regional cooperation.

October 10 commemorates the date in 2010 when the Netherlands Antilles was dissolved and Curaçao became an autonomous country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
