WILLEMSTAD – On Friday, April 10, 2026, the Pisas III Cabinet officially unveiled an artistic bench in honor of former Governor Lucille George-Wout. The ceremony took place in the presence of Governor Mauritsz de Kort, Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas, members of the Council of Ministers, Parliament President Fergino Brownbill along with several Members of Parliament, and other invited guests. The event was held in a solemn yet cultural atmosphere.

The bench at Governor's Plaza
The bench was created by artist Giovanni Abath (7.1) and serves as a lasting tribute from the Pisas III Cabinet, recognizing Mrs. George-Wout’s 12-year tenure as Governor of Curaçao. The artwork consists of 626 circles, representing the 626 weeks—12 years and 2 weeks—during which she served in office. The circles symbolize commitment, continuity, and unity.
The bench is constructed from stainless steel and black marble and is shaped like a crown, referencing both the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the dignified manner in which George-Wout fulfilled her role as Governor. The combination of black and white symbolizes inclusivity, while the transparent design represents transparency as a core value of democratic governance.
The bench is located at Gouvernementsplein in Punda, where members of the community can sit and enjoy the view of the Governor’s Palace while reflecting on her legacy.
