Pedestrian dies after overnight traffic accident on Helmin Magno Wiels Boulevard

WILLEMSTAD – A pedestrian has died following a serious traffic accident on the Helmin Magno Wiels Boulevard in the early hours of yesterday morning.

According to police, the accident occurred at around 1:45 a.m. near the entrance of a shopping center, where a passenger vehicle struck a man who was walking along the roadway.

When officers from the Korps Politie Curaçao arrived at the scene, they found the victim lying on the road with severe injuries.

Emergency medical personnel transported the man by ambulance to the emergency department of the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC), where doctors attempted to treat his injuries.

The victim later died from those injuries.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased, pending notification of family members.

Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident, including the circumstances that led to the collision and whether speed, visibility or other factors may have played a role.

Traffic investigators are expected to review evidence from the scene and speak with witnesses as part of the ongoing inquiry.

Fatal traffic accidents remain a major concern on Curaçao, with authorities repeatedly urging both drivers and pedestrians to remain alert, especially during nighttime hours when visibility is reduced.

Police have not yet announced whether any arrests were made or whether the driver involved remains under investigation.
