Local, Politics, | By Correspondent May 6, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – A scheduled public meeting of the Curaçao Parliament set for Friday, May 8, has been officially cancelled, postponing discussions on key issues within the justice sector.

The cancellation was announced by Parliament’s clerk S. R. Cijntje on behalf of the President of Parliament.

According to the notice, the session, which was set to begin at 10:00 a.m., included on its agenda a deliberation with the Minister of Justice regarding structural issues at the Opleidingsinstituut Rechtshandhaving en Veiligheidszorg (ORV), the training institute for law enforcement and security services.

The meeting had been requested by petitioners seeking parliamentary attention for the situation at the institute.

No reason was provided for the cancellation.

Parliament indicated that the session has been postponed until further notice, with a new date expected to be announced at a later stage.

The ORV plays a key role in the training and development of law enforcement personnel in Curaçao, making the postponed discussion particularly relevant for the justice and security sectors.

The cancellation comes at a time when concerns about institutional capacity and structural challenges within public services continue to draw attention in Curaçao.

For now, stakeholders and observers will have to wait for further updates on when Parliament will resume debate on the matter.
