WILLEMSTAD – The PAR parliamentary faction will request a meeting of the Curaçao Parliament to discuss the government investigation into the use of funds connected to the Landsverordening op Kansspelen (LOK).
PAR leader Quincy Girigorie said the faction wants Parliament to contribute to the investigation process and ensure that important questions from the legislative body are included.
The request follows Minister of Finance Charles Cooper’s announcement that the government will investigate financial arrangements within the online gaming sector, including an annual payment of ANG 8.3 million to a foreign party in Malta.
PAR stated that during the introduction and discussion of the LOK, the faction had already raised critical questions about the system but did not receive sufficient answers from the previous Minister of Finance.
According to Girigorie, the same questions that Parliament raised earlier are now becoming part of the investigation announced by Cooper.
“For that reason, PAR will submit a request to the President of Parliament to organize a meeting, so Parliament can provide input and ensure the investigation is effective and includes the questions that are important within the framework of parliamentary oversight,” the party stated.
PAR said it supports efforts to increase transparency and possible improvements in a sector that has the potential to generate significant income for Curaçao.
The faction added that it intends to provide a constructive contribution to ensure that revenues generated through online gaming are managed responsibly and serve the interests of the people of Curaçao.
