PAR Raises Alarm Over Pressure on Curaçao Medical Center Capacity

Local, Politics, Health, | By Correspondent March 27, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The parliamentary faction of Partido Alternativa Real (PAR) is warning that the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) is approaching its operational limits, raising concerns about the sustainability and quality of healthcare on the island.

In a letter addressed to Parliament President Fergino Brownbill, PAR MP Shaheen Elhage points to recent statements from hospital management indicating that the institution is under severe pressure, describing the situation as being close to a “care infarction.”

According to the party, the strain on healthcare staff is reaching unsustainable levels, with increasing workloads and limited capacity contributing to a fragile system. PAR argues that financial solutions alone will not resolve the issue, stressing that structural challenges—such as shortages of medical specialists and growing demand for hospital care—require urgent attention.

The faction notes that waiting lists for specialized care continue to grow, while available capacity remains limited. It warns that without immediate action, Curaçao risks reaching a point where responsible and adequate hospital care can no longer be guaranteed.

PAR is calling on the government to clarify how it intends to address these challenges and ensure the long-term stability of the healthcare system. The party emphasizes that safeguarding public health is a core responsibility of the government and that inaction is not an option.
