Local, The Netherlands, | By Correspondent May 22, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Community Center Otrobanda (SBO) has been selected for the second round of the Appeltjes van Oranje 2026, the prestigious social impact award presented annually by the Oranje Fonds.

The Curaçao organization is now among fifty social initiatives across the Kingdom still competing for the award.

This year’s edition focuses on the theme “Breaking the Cycle of Poverty Together,” highlighting organizations working to combat poverty and social exclusion in a structural and sustainable way.

According to SBO, the selection represents important recognition for the social work the organization has carried out in Otrobanda for many years.

The community center supports residents living in poverty or at risk of falling into poverty, focusing on children, families, elderly residents and undocumented individuals.

SBO describes the center as a place where residents can receive social support, guidance and assistance in regaining stability and control over their lives.

According to the organization, approximately 650 residents receive ongoing support and assistance each year through its programs and services.

By advancing to the second round, SBO says it is representing not only Otrobanda, but Curaçao as a whole within the Kingdom competition.

Public voting will play an important role in determining which organizations advance to the finals. SBO is therefore encouraging residents of Curaçao to vote in support of the initiative.

Voting for the Appeltjes van Oranje remains open through May 27 via the official Appeltjes van Oranje website.
