WILLEMSTAD – A surprisingly small number of government employees recognize the oath or pledge that forms part of Curaçao's integrity framework, according to the Integrity Baseline Scan.
At the Ministry of Economic Development, only 21 percent of respondents indicated that the oath or pledge is administered. At the Ministry of Social Development, Labor and Welfare, the figure was even lower at 16 percent.
The oath or pledge is intended to reinforce the responsibilities of public servants and their commitment to integrity and public service.
Researchers noted that the low level of recognition raises questions about how visible and meaningful the measure has become within government organizations.
The findings suggest that a key symbolic element of the government's integrity strategy may not be reaching large portions of the civil service workforce.
