WILLEMSTAD – A Royal Honor is an official distinction awarded by His Majesty King Willem-Alexander to citizens of the Kingdom who have made exceptional contributions to the well-being of the community or to specific groups within society.
The Government of Curaçao is once again inviting residents to nominate individuals they believe deserve a Royal Honor in recognition of their outstanding service and dedication.
Recently, Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas, in his capacity as Minister of General Affairs, appointed the members of the Royal Honors Committee for a new three-year term. The committee is responsible for advising the Minister of General Affairs on nominations for Royal Honors.
The newly appointed committee consists of:
- Jefka Alberto – Chairperson
- Roland Rooi – Member
- Edson Hato – Member
- Evangeline Martina – Member
- Kimberley Sambo – Secretary
Each year, the Royal Honors Committee encourages the people of Curaçao to identify and nominate individuals whose efforts have made a meaningful impact on society.
Anyone wishing to nominate a candidate can visit the government website for information regarding eligibility requirements, nomination procedures, and the documents needed to complete an application. Nominations may be submitted until September 15, 2026.
Following the submission deadline, the committee will review all nominations and provide recommendations to the Minister of General Affairs. Once the evaluation process is completed, the recommended list will be submitted to the Council of Ministers for consideration.
The committee itself does not make the final decision. Instead, it advises the government based on the established criteria and procedures governing Royal Honors.
After approval by the Council of Ministers, the list is forwarded to His Excellency the Governor of Curaçao, who then submits the recommendations to the Government of the Netherlands for final consideration and approval.
Traditionally, the official investiture ceremony takes place annually on the day before King's Day. The next Royal Honors ceremony is scheduled for Monday, April 26, 2027.
Residents who know individuals whose volunteer work, professional achievements, community service, or other contributions have made a significant difference are encouraged to submit nominations and ensure that their efforts receive the recognition they deserve.
