No Dutch Oversight on Venezuelan Oil Activities in Curaçao, Ministers Say

Local, The Netherlands, | By Correspondent April 8, 2026

THE HAGUE – The Netherlands was not informed in advance about the arrival and storage of Venezuelan oil in Curaçao, according to statements from Dutch ministers responding to questions in Parliament.

The ministers stressed that the Kingdom government does not have a decision-making role in such matters, as they fall under the responsibility of the Curaçao government.

This clarification comes amid growing political debate in the Netherlands about the implications of oil-related activities in the Caribbean, particularly in light of international sanctions and geopolitical tensions involving Venezuela.

Despite concerns raised in Parliament, the Dutch government indicated that it sees no reason to intervene or assign broader political significance to the activities.
