WILLEMSTAD – The newly appointed Consul-General of the Republic of Suriname in Curaçao, Joraisa Pokie, paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Curaçao, His Excellency Mauritsz de Kort, on Thursday, May 28, 2026.
The meeting served as an introductory visit following Pokie’s appointment as Suriname’s top diplomatic representative in Willemstad.
The Consul-General was accompanied by Vice-Consul Angeladebie Khoesial and Darryllin van der Veen, Director of the Department of Foreign Relations.
During the courtesy meeting, Governor de Kort welcomed the new Consul-General and discussed matters of mutual interest between Curaçao and Suriname. Such introductory visits are a longstanding diplomatic tradition and provide an opportunity to strengthen relations and cooperation between the two countries.
Suriname and Curaçao maintain close historical, cultural, and people-to-people ties, supported by a significant Surinamese community residing on the island. Diplomatic engagement between the two countries plays an important role in promoting cooperation in areas such as trade, culture, education, and consular affairs.
The visit marks the beginning of Consul-General Pokie’s tenure in Curaçao and underscores the continued commitment of both countries to maintaining strong bilateral relations.
