WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao students could benefit from a new Kingdom-wide education initiative intended to improve study success and create a stronger connection between education and the labor market.
The Kingdom-wide Knowledge Agenda was signed in 2026 and is expected to move into a more practical implementation phase in 2027.
According to the Dutch government’s proposed 2027 Kingdom Relations budget, participating parties agreed to develop a common work agenda and mobilize educational institutions and other stakeholders.
Two of the central objectives are improving the study success of Caribbean students and better matching education with labor-market needs on the islands.
Following expected approval by ministers during the Four-Country Education Consultation in November 2026, participating platforms will work on several concrete areas in 2027.
These include recognition of training companies, professional development for workplace instructors, lifelong learning, curriculum alignment and development of regional educational programs.
The initiative is linked to the Strategic Education Alliance and the broader Four-Country Education Consultation.
For Curaçao, better alignment between education and employment has long-term implications for both youth employment and the availability of qualified workers.
The Kingdom initiative is intended to bring governments, educational institutions and labor-market partners closer together rather than treating education and workforce shortages as separate problems.
