New Dialysis Center in Curaçao Faces Political Scrutiny Over Safety and Coordination

Local, Politics, Health, | By Correspondent April 2, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – A recently opened dialysis center in Curaçao has come under immediate political scrutiny, with MFK parliamentarian Gilbert Doran raising concerns about patient safety, organization and coordination within the healthcare system.

Doran has submitted questions to Minister of Health, Environment and Nature Tyron Boekhoudt, emphasizing that dialysis care is life-sustaining and must be continuous, safe and well-coordinated.

At the center of the inquiry is how the new facility is integrated into the broader healthcare system, particularly its relationship with the Curaçao Medical Center. Doran is seeking clarity on whether formal agreements are in place between the two institutions and how cooperation functions in practice.

The questions focus heavily on patient safety. The parliamentarian wants to know whether doctors have immediate access to patient records in emergency situations, allowing for rapid and effective intervention in case of complications.

Doran is also raising concerns about the availability of specialized care. He is requesting information on whether a nephrologist is consistently available and how emergency procedures are structured within the center.

Technical reliability is another key issue. The parliamentarian is asking what contingency measures are in place in the event of equipment failure and how the facility is prepared to handle potential emergencies.

The inquiry highlights broader concerns about the introduction of new healthcare services and the need to ensure they are fully integrated, properly staffed and equipped to meet the highest standards of patient care.
