WILLEMSTAD – Volunteers participating in the latest Kunuku Man cleanup campaign collected nearly 300 kilograms of waste along Kaminda George Williams, near the Brievengat festival grounds, highlighting the continued problem of littering on Curaçao.
The cleanup, held on July 19, resulted in the removal of a total of 299 kilograms of waste from the roadside. The largest share consisted of 216 kilograms of empty beer bottles, followed by 11 kilograms of plastic bottles and 2 kilograms of aluminum cans. An additional 70 kilograms of non-recyclable waste was sent to the landfill.
According to Kunuku Man, the proceeds from recyclable materials collected during its Sunday cleanup campaigns are donated to Rescue Paws Curaçao. Based on current recycling rates, the latest collection generated CG 86.40 from glass, CG 11.00 from plastic bottles and CG 2.50 from aluminum cans for the animal rescue organization.
The organization also announced that the Kunuku Man Recycle program will officially begin during the first week of August. Residents will be able to turn in glass bottles, plastic bottles and aluminum cans in exchange for cash.
Kunuku Man used the cleanup results to urge residents to stop littering and instead recycle recyclable materials while taking the remainder of their household waste home for proper disposal.
The organization concluded by thanking the volunteers who participated in the cleanup, praising them for their continued commitment to keeping Curaçao clean and supporting a local animal welfare cause.
