WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao welcomed nearly 10,000 cruise passengers as three major cruise ships arrived in Willemstad simultaneously, marking the first triple cruise ship arrival of the current high season. The occasion also featured the maiden call of Royal Caribbean International's Independence of the Seas.
According to the Curaçao Ports Authority (CPA), the three vessels brought a combined total of 9,701 passengers, providing a significant boost to cruise tourism activity on the island.

The Independence of the Seas, making its inaugural visit to Curaçao, arrived with 4,375 passengers and 1,365 crew members. The vessel docked at Mega Pier Tula.
The Celebrity Silhouette, carrying 2,886 passengers, docked at Mega Pier Ernest Jackie Voges, while the Grandeur of the Seas arrived with 2,440 passengers at Mathey Wharf.
The simultaneous arrival of the three vessels brought considerable activity to Willemstad's cruise facilities, with thousands of visitors having the opportunity to explore the island's attractions, historic districts, beaches, restaurants, and shopping areas.
The large number of passengers also represents an important opportunity for local businesses, including tour operators, transportation providers, retailers, restaurants, and other tourism-related services that benefit from cruise ship visits.
Maiden Call Celebrated With Traditional Ceremony
The arrival of the Independence of the Seas was particularly significant because it marked the vessel's first visit to Curaçao.
To commemorate the occasion, a traditional plaque exchange ceremony was organized onboard the ship.

Representatives of the Curaçao Ports Authority, Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB), Maduro Shipping, Curaçao Customs, and Immigration participated in the ceremony.
Plaque exchange ceremonies are a longstanding maritime tradition used to recognize a cruise vessel's inaugural visit to a destination and to strengthen relationships between cruise lines and local port authorities.
The Independence of the Seas is part of Royal Caribbean International's fleet and represents another addition to the vessels visiting Curaçao during the cruise tourism season.
Cruise High Season Gains Momentum
The arrival of three cruise ships on the same day highlights Curaçao's importance as a destination within Caribbean cruise itineraries.
With 9,701 passengers arriving across the three vessels, the port experienced one of the first major concentrations of cruise visitors during the current high season.
Cruise tourism remains an important component of Curaçao's tourism industry, supporting businesses that provide excursions, transportation, hospitality, shopping, and other visitor services.
The simultaneous calls also demonstrate the role of Willemstad's port infrastructure, including the two mega piers and Mathey Wharf, in accommodating multiple large cruise vessels.
For Curaçao's tourism sector, the arrival represents a promising moment as the island welcomes increasing cruise activity during the high season, while the maiden call of the Independence of the Seas adds another milestone to the port's cruise tourism operations.
