MP Camelia-Römer Presses Government on Silence Over International Conflicts

Local, Politics, | By Correspondent April 17, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – MAN-PIN Member of Parliament Suzanne Camelia-Römer has raised concerns about the absence of a clear public position from the Curaçao government on international wars and human rights violations.

In a letter addressed to Parliament, Camelia-Römer submitted a series of questions to Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas, arguing that the government has so far remained silent on ongoing global conflicts.

According to the MP, this lack of a public stance is problematic. She questioned whether such silence could contribute to the normalization of violence and whether Curaçao has a responsibility to speak out against war and violations of human rights.

Camelia-Römer is also seeking clarification on whether the government is willing to adopt an official position in the near future and raise the issue within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, for example in the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom.

In addition, she asked what concrete steps Curaçao intends to take to position itself internationally as a supporter of peace and human rights.

The MP has requested that Prime Minister Pisas respond to the questions in writing as soon as possible.
