AMSTERDAM, WILLEMSTAD – More than 80 organizations from the cultural and education sectors have formally signed the Theateropleiders Akkoord, an agreement aimed at making theater education accessible to all children and young people in the Netherlands and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom.
The initiative was officially presented during the Nederlands Theater Festival and brings together organizations that want to strengthen the position of arts and cultural education within the education system.
The agreement specifically includes attention for the Theater Education Program on the Caribbean islands, ensuring that young people in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom are included in the broader effort to expand access to theater and cultural development.
Under the agreement, the participating organizations will work closely together over the next four years. Their objective is to give arts and cultural education a more permanent place within schools rather than treating it as an occasional or supplementary activity.
A central goal of the initiative is promoting equal opportunities. By expanding access to theater education, the organizations want children and young people from different backgrounds and regions to have opportunities to participate in cultural activities and develop their creative abilities.
The involvement of the Caribbean islands means the initiative extends beyond the European Netherlands and seeks to strengthen theater education throughout the Kingdom.
The participating organizations will now work during the four-year period to translate the agreement into closer cooperation between the cultural and education sectors, including through programs designed specifically for young people on the islands.
