WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Traffic and Transport Authority (UOVV) approved more than 24,000 vehicles during inspections in the first four months of 2026, according to newly released operational figures.

The agency reported that 24,010 vehicles successfully passed inspection between January and April, while 231 vehicles failed to meet the required standards and were rejected.

The figures also reveal continued growth in Curaçao’s vehicle fleet. During the same period, 5,372 new vehicles were registered on the island, highlighting strong demand for transportation despite rising costs associated with vehicle ownership.

In addition, ownership of 11,183 vehicles changed hands during the first four months of the year, reflecting significant activity in the local automotive market.

Tinted Window Exemptions

The UOVV also issued 76 exemption documents for tinted vehicle windows. Authorities reminded motorists that drivers who are unable to present a valid exemption during a police inspection risk being ordered to remove the tint from their vehicles.

The agency emphasized the importance of carrying the proper documentation at all times when operating vehicles with authorized window tinting.

Transportation Permits

Beyond vehicle inspections and registrations, the UOVV continued its regulatory oversight of public transportation services.

According to the report, permits were granted to 12 taxi drivers and 10 operators of small buses. The agency also issued several exemptions related to taxis, tour vehicles, and safari tour operations.

Overview of Operations

The statistics provide a snapshot of the wide range of responsibilities carried out by the UOVV during the first four months of 2026. In addition to overseeing vehicle inspections and registrations, the organization is responsible for regulating public transportation services and ensuring compliance with traffic and transportation regulations.

The latest figures underscore the steady movement of vehicles and transportation services on the island, with thousands of inspections, registrations, ownership transfers, and permit applications processed during the opening months of the year.
