WILLEMSTAD – More than 2,000 volunteers are expected to take to the streets across Curaçao this Friday and Saturday as the island participates in the 14th edition of World Clean Up Day.
Between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on both days, volunteers will clean up waste at various locations throughout the island. Curaçao’s campaign is part of the international World Clean Up Day movement, which brings together participants in more than 200 countries.
Local organizer Curaçao Clean Up is asking motorists to exercise additional caution during the activities, particularly in neighborhoods where volunteers will be working.
Drivers are being urged to reduce their speed and remain alert when approaching cleanup areas. The locations will be clearly marked, while participating volunteers will be identifiable by their orange safety vests.
The Red Cross will also be on standby to provide assistance in the event of an emergency.
Organizers are meanwhile advising volunteers to prepare properly for several hours of outdoor activity in Curaçao’s heat. Participants are encouraged to eat a good breakfast before starting, use adequate protection against the sun and drink sufficient water throughout the morning.
The large turnout is expected to once again make World Clean Up Day one of Curaçao’s biggest organized community cleanup efforts, bringing together residents who are volunteering their time to remove litter and improve public spaces across the island.
