WILLEMSTAD – Member of Parliament Ishahier Monte of the ruling MFK party has invited the Curaçao Social Workers Association (CWSA) to a working meeting aimed at discussing key social issues affecting the well-being of the people of Curaçao.
According to Monte, social workers play a crucial role within the community, often serving as the first line of support for families, young people, and other vulnerable groups facing a wide range of social challenges.
For that reason, he believes it is important for policymakers to listen to their experiences, ideas, and recommendations.
During the meeting, Monte hopes to exchange views with representatives of the association on several topics, including the continued development of social work education on Curaçao, ways to strengthen and increase the visibility of social work within neighborhoods, strategies to improve social welfare and mental health services, and the current social challenges facing the island.
“Our community is dealing with various social, family, and mental health challenges. That is why it is important for Parliament not only to listen to experts, but also to work closely with organizations that are actively engaged in the community every day,” Monte said.
The parliamentarian expressed hope that the meeting will contribute to a constructive dialogue and generate practical ideas that can help strengthen social well-being across Curaçao.
“If we want a stronger Curaçao, we must invest in people. And to achieve that, we must listen to the professionals who work closest to the social issues our population faces every day,” Monte added.
The planned discussions are expected to focus on identifying opportunities for greater collaboration between policymakers and social service professionals as Curaçao continues to address challenges related to social welfare, family support, and mental health.
