WILLEMSTAD – Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas welcomed Miss International Curaçao 2026, Samiah Booi, on Wednesday, October 21, for a presentation of her sustainability project, which combines agriculture, sustainable tourism, the circular economy and waste management.

The meeting was also attended by Minister of Economic Development Roderick Middelhof, Minister of Health, Environment and Nature Tyron Boekhoudt, and Curaçao's Minister Plenipotentiary in the Netherlands, Sidney “Bicho” Justiana.

During the presentation, Booi outlined her vision and explored opportunities for cooperation with the government, particularly the Ministry of Health, Environment and Nature (GMN). The objective is to establish a foundation that will support the project's continuity and long-term development.

Prime Minister Pisas expressed interest in the initiative and explained the procedures and steps required to establish a possible partnership with the government. The participants also discussed holding follow-up meetings to examine the proposal in greater detail and determine how the relevant government institutions could contribute.

Booi also informed the Prime Minister about a meeting she held in September with Curaçao's Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Commission. Pisas welcomed that engagement and encouraged her to continue exploring opportunities for cooperation with the commission.

The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange ideas on how initiatives combining agriculture, environmental protection and tourism could contribute to Curaçao's sustainable development.

Booi is currently pursuing a master's degree in International Business Law and is involved in developing agritourism projects.

She will represent Curaçao at Miss International 2026 in Japan in November, where she hopes to use the international platform to promote Curaçao while highlighting her commitment to sustainability and community development.

Her participation will also provide an opportunity to bring international attention to initiatives that connect environmental responsibility with economic opportunities for local communities.
