WILLEMSTAD – A minor was killed Monday evening in a serious traffic accident at the intersection of Caracasbaaiweg and Kaya Damasco. Two other minors who were traveling in the same SUV were injured and taken to the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC).
The accident occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. According to the preliminary police investigation, one SUV was traveling along Caracasbaaiweg in the direction of Caracasbaai when another SUV entered the roadway from Kaya Damasco and allegedly failed to yield the right of way.
The two vehicles subsequently collided.
The driver of the SUV carrying the three minors suffered extremely serious injuries. When emergency services arrived, the victim showed no signs of life. A police doctor was called to the scene and officially pronounced the minor dead.
The two other minors in the same vehicle were also injured. Ambulance personnel transported them to the emergency department of the CMC for medical treatment. No information has yet been released about the severity of their injuries.
As of Monday night into Tuesday morning, authorities had not yet officially established the identity of the deceased victim and therefore had not released the name.
The Traffic Department of the Curaçao Police Force is continuing its investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
