WILLEMSTAD – Minister of Economic Development Roderick Middelhof recently presented awards to participants of the Curaçao Youth Championships (CYC) 2026, recognizing the achievements of young sailing talents during an event organized by Youth Sailing Curaçao (YSCO).
The championships brought together youth sailors from Curaçao and abroad, including participants from Aruba, Bonaire, St. Kitts, Canada and the United States. The event consisted of four days of preparation followed by three days of competitive regattas.
Awards were presented across several categories, including Opti School, Opti Race A, Opti Race B, ILCA 4.7 and ILCA 6, highlighting the range of skill levels and disciplines within youth sailing.
According to organizers, the competition not only focused on performance but also aimed to encourage development, discipline and international exchange among young athletes.
Minister Middelhof congratulated all winners and participants, praising their dedication and talent in the sport. The event underscores Curaçao’s growing presence in youth sailing and its role in fostering the next generation of athletes both locally and within the wider region.
