Minister Cooper Awards Road Projects Under “Life Extension 2026” Program

WILLEMSTAD – On Friday, March 6, 2026, Minister Charles Cooper, together with the Ministry of Public Works of Curaçao (OW), officially awarded several infrastructure projects under the “Life Extension 2026” program to four different contractors.

The “Life Extension 2026” program forms part of the ministry’s ongoing road maintenance policy and focuses on extending the lifespan of roads in a sustainable way. This is done by strengthening road foundations with diabase materials in various neighborhoods across the island.

The projects have been awarded to the following contractors:

Ortela General Contractors
– Construction of a diabase road foundation in Seru Grandi Phase 2
– Construction of a diabase road foundation at Kaya Bors and Wans
– Construction of a diabase road foundation at Jan Doret Kaya Diemond

Catspatran N.V.
– Construction of a diabase road foundation at Tucacas and Kent U Zelf Phase 2
– Construction of a diabase road foundation at Kirindongo Abou Phase 2

Steven General Construction & Transport B.V.
– Construction of road foundations in Paradijs and surrounding areas Phase 2
– Construction of a road foundation at Kaya Trektor Phase 2

Mirten General Construction
– Construction of a road foundation in Mahuma Phase 2
– Construction of a road foundation in Sami Liber and surrounding areas

According to the ministry, the awarding of these projects demonstrates the government’s continued commitment to structural road maintenance and improving traffic safety in Curaçao.

By investing early in strong road foundations, authorities aim to prevent further deterioration of road surfaces and create a solid base for asphalt paving in a later phase of the infrastructure works.
