Local, Health, | By Press release April 21, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Minister of Public Health, Environment and Nature, Tyron Boekhoudt, paid an introductory visit to the Prevention Foundation to gain deeper insight into the organization’s work in promoting public health on Curaçao.

During the visit, the minister met with doctors and healthcare professionals to exchange knowledge and experiences related to prevention and the promotion of healthier lifestyles. The meeting forms part of preparations for a National Prevention Plan currently being developed by the ministry to improve public health on the island.

A key component of the visit was the presentation of findings from several recent studies conducted by the Prevention Foundation. These studies provide insight into how the Curaçao community views health and well-being, including attitudes toward lifestyle, nutrition, and physical activity.

Minister Boekhoudt emphasized that the upcoming National Prevention Plan will be based on concrete data and input from local experts, with the goal of implementing effective and realistic measures that can reach the entire population.

The government sees collaboration with organizations such as the Prevention Foundation as essential in shifting the healthcare system toward prevention rather than focusing solely on treatment.

With this visit, Minister Boekhoudt reaffirmed his commitment to building a healthier Curaçao, where prevention plays a central role in the well-being of all citizens.
