Local, | By Press release May 8, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Minister of Health, Environment and Nature Tyron Boekhoudt is moving to strengthen cooperation between Curaçao and Colombia in key areas including healthcare, food security, veterinary cooperation, and public health.

The initiative comes amid official activities linked to Velas del Caribe in Curaçao, where the presence of Colombia’s naval training ship ARC Gloria has created new opportunities to deepen bilateral relations.

As part of the official visit of Colombia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio Mapy, several concrete steps were coordinated by Curaçao Investment & Export Promotion Agency (CINEX) and ProColombia, with support from Colombia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to expand cooperation between both countries.

During the discussions, Minister Boekhoudt highlighted Curaçao’s growing need for medical specialists and shared plans for an upcoming working visit to Colombia to explore partnerships in the healthcare sector.

The minister is scheduled to travel to Colombia on June 2, where he will meet with Colombian authorities and relevant institutions to strengthen collaboration in healthcare, public health, food safety, and technical exchange.

Other areas of cooperation under discussion include evaluating entry requirements for Colombian visitors traveling to Curaçao with domestic animals, ensuring compliance with veterinary and public health regulations.

Officials are also exploring the preparation of a Letter of Intent between Curaçao and Colombia to formalize cooperation in food security, health inspections, veterinary coordination, healthcare collaboration, and technical exchange.

According to the ministry, the momentum created by the visit and the coordination between CINEX, ProColombia, and Colombian authorities has evolved into a concrete opportunity to strengthen partnerships in areas that directly affect the daily lives of citizens and contribute to Curaçao’s long-term resilience and development.
