Minister Boekhoudt Participates in International Ebola Discussions During World Health Assembly

GENEVA – Tyron Boekhoudt participated Sunday as part of the Dutch Kingdom delegation in a high-level international discussion on the current Ebola outbreak during the annual World Health Organization (WHO) World Health Assembly in Geneva.

The meeting, organized by the Dutch ambassador, brought together representatives from the World Health Organization, experts in pandemic preparedness and crisis management, as well as representatives from the European Union, Spain, Australia, and ministers and senior officials from the Netherlands, Rwanda, and Curaçao.

Representatives from the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) also participated in the discussions.

According to information released following the meeting, the talks focused heavily on the ongoing Ebola outbreak and the importance of rapid international action and cooperation.

Participants discussed the need to strengthen international collaboration, establish sustainable financing mechanisms, invest in healthcare infrastructure, and continue developing preparedness systems capable of responding effectively to future public health threats.

The discussions also addressed issues such as transparency and information sharing between countries and international organizations, as well as prevention, research, treatment, and the development and availability of vaccines.

During the deliberations, the Dutch Kingdom delegation emphasized the importance of international cooperation and knowledge exchange, particularly for small islands and countries with limited healthcare capacity.

The delegation also stressed the importance of a multilateral approach to strengthening global preparedness for the current Ebola outbreak and future health crises.

The annual World Health Assembly brings together health ministers and international partners from around the world to discuss global health issues and promote international cooperation in the field of public health.
