WILLEMSTAD – Minister of Health, Environment and Nature (GMN) Tyron Boekhoudt met with Giuseppe Mancinelli, Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), on Tuesday, September 1, to discuss strengthening cooperation between UNOPS and the Government of Curaçao.
UNOPS is already an established partner of Curaçao and has previously contributed to studies and projects related to infrastructure and sustainable development. During the meeting, Boekhoudt and Mancinelli discussed opportunities to expand this cooperation and continue projects that fall within the responsibilities of the Ministry of GMN.
Among the topics discussed were waste management, water management and environmental sustainability, as well as opportunities for UNOPS to provide technical assistance with the implementation of priority projects.
Waste management was identified as an important area of concern, particularly because of the limited remaining capacity at the Malpais landfill. The ministry noted that inadequate waste management can have consequences for both the environment and public health.
Boekhoudt stressed the importance of moving beyond policy and planning toward the implementation of concrete projects.
The Ministry of GMN and UNOPS will continue exploring opportunities for cooperation aimed at contributing to a healthier, more resilient and sustainable Curaçao.
