WILLEMSTAD – Minister of Social Development, Labor and Welfare Charetti America-Francisca says she is committed to pursuing structural reforms rather than making popular promises, arguing that lasting improvements require responsible leadership and long-term planning.
Speaking after a meeting with the Ombudsman, the minister said she has deliberately chosen a governing style focused on sustainable solutions, good governance and institutional modernization.
According to America-Francisca, the challenges facing the SOAW ministry cannot be solved through short-term measures designed to win public approval.
"We can choose the easy path of empty promises, or we can choose reforms that take more time but deliver real benefits for the future. I have chosen the latter," she said.
The minister added that her goal is to leave behind a ministry that is stronger, more modern and more people-oriented than the one she inherited.
She also stressed that criticism and feedback from society should not be viewed negatively but rather as valuable input for improving government policy and public services.
"Good governance requires openness, self-reflection and a willingness to share responsibility. When we work together, we can do more for the people who depend on us. That is what good governance is all about," America-Francisca said.
The minister's remarks reflect her broader vision of strengthening public institutions while ensuring that reforms produce lasting benefits for the people of Curaçao.
