WILLEMSTAD – The parliamentary faction of the ruling Movementu Futuro Kòrsou (MFK) has formally requested a meeting of Parliament’s Central Committee to discuss growing complaints about the handling of land applications at the government’s Domain Management Office.
The request was submitted Monday in a letter addressed to Parliament Chairman Fergino Brownbill.
According to the MFK faction, the request follows the public protest that took place on May 13 in front of the Domain Management Office, where citizens voiced frustration over long delays in the processing of land requests and the lack of communication from authorities.
The proposed agenda item for the meeting is the “handling of petitions at Domain Management.”
In the letter, MFK lawmakers state that many applicants experience situations in which requests remain pending for years without being processed or without receiving a final decision.
The faction also pointed to complaints about insufficient communication regarding the reasons behind the delays.
According to the letter, the situation has caused frustration and distrust within the community and has strengthened perceptions that there is not enough transparency in the process.
The MFK faction stressed that for many families, applying for government land is not simply an administrative procedure, but an important step toward building homes, developing agricultural projects, and improving their quality of life.
The party argues that Parliament should engage directly with the government to discuss the problems surrounding Domain Management and explore ways to improve procedures, communication with applicants, and the overall handling of petitions.
The request was submitted under Article 33 of the Rules of Order of the Parliament of Curaçao.
The issue of delayed land applications has become increasingly politically sensitive in recent weeks following demonstrations organized by activist group Plataforma Bandariba, which accused the government of leaving hundreds of applications unresolved for years.
