MFK MP Demands Answers Over Delays in Marshe Nobo Renovation

Local, Politics, | By Correspondent July 15, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – MFK Member of Parliament Sandy Losiabaar is asking Minister of Economic Development Roderick Middelhof for clarification about delays in the renovation of Marshe Nobo. Market vendors have been forced to continue working under difficult conditions at their temporary location at Plasa Papa Godett for longer than originally expected.

According to Losiabaar, the renovation project has taken longer than planned. She wants the minister to explain when the project was originally scheduled for completion, what caused the delays and when the renovated market can now be expected to reopen.

The Marshe Nobo vendors were temporarily relocated to Plasa Papa Godett in Punda during the renovation works. Losiabaar says the merchants are exposed daily to challenging conditions, including intense sunlight, rain and wind.

She is asking what measures the government has taken to improve the temporary working environment and provide better conditions for the affected vendors.

Security concerns

The MFK parliamentarian also raises concerns about possible security risks at the temporary location. Many market vendors handle cash transactions in an open public area, and Losiabaar wants to know what security measures have been put in place.

She asks whether additional security measures are necessary to protect the merchants and their customers during the period of temporary relocation.

Losiabaar is also questioning whether vendors who have suffered financial losses because of the relocation and the delayed renovation could qualify for financial assistance or compensation.

Project monitoring

The parliamentarian wants Minister Middelhof to explain how the progress of the renovation project is being monitored and what steps are being taken to prevent further delays.

The questions do not specify the original completion date, the current expected delivery date, the total renovation costs or the exact length of the delay. Losiabaar is therefore requesting that the government provide an updated overview of the project and offer market vendors clarity about when they can return to the renewed Marshe Nobo.

She argues that the merchants, who depend on the market for their livelihoods, deserve certainty and better working conditions while they wait for the renovation to be completed.
