MFK MP Calls for Action Over Illegal Dumping Along Caracasbaaiweg

WILLEMSTAD – MFK Member of Parliament JR Carolina is calling on the relevant authorities to take action over what he describes as a growing environmental and public health concern along Caracasbaaiweg near the Vanddis pumping station.

In a statement issued this week, Carolina said he and others began cleaning the area by removing visible garbage from the roadside and collecting trash bags that had accumulated in the area.

According to the parliamentarian, the roadside is littered with a significant amount of waste. He said a recurring problem involves an individual who reportedly collects garbage bags from dumpsters belonging to nearby businesses, including a bakery truck, cafeteria and smoothie stand.

Carolina explained that the person allegedly carries the bags across the road into the surrounding brush, where they are opened and searched for recyclable or valuable items. As a result, much of the garbage is left scattered throughout the vegetation and eventually spreads back onto the roadside, worsening pollution in the area.

While expressing appreciation for the efforts of the local community police officer assigned to the Montaña district, Carolina urged the competent authorities to intervene and implement measures to keep the area clean.

He said protecting the environment, preserving the natural surroundings and safeguarding public health should be priorities, warning that the situation could deteriorate further if no action is taken.

Carolina added that cleanup efforts will continue next week as part of an ongoing initiative to remove waste from areas affected by illegal dumping and littering.
