WILLEMSTAD – The Meteorological Service Curaçao received a working visit from John Eikelenstam and Marius Sliedrecht, with discussions focusing on the critical role of weather information in aviation safety.

During the meeting, Andy Luciano, head of the Weather Office, provided an overview of the department’s responsibilities, emphasizing how weather conditions directly impact flight operations. Topics included the effects of extreme weather, key meteorological parameters, and the use of automated observation systems at Hato International Airport.

The discussions also addressed the level of expertise available across the ABC islands and the importance of having a weather radar system in the Caribbean region to improve forecasting accuracy.

Another key point was the need to strengthen communication between meteorological services and end users, particularly within the aviation sector, to ensure timely and reliable information.

According to the Meteorological Service, efforts will continue to enhance services and expand cooperation with international partners, with the goal of supporting safe and efficient aviation operations in Curaçao and the wider region.
