Local, The Netherlands, | By Correspondent April 2, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – A group of nine medical specialists has successfully completed a military training program, with the final phase taking place in Curaçao under demanding conditions.

The group includes trauma surgeons, ICU nurses, operating room assistants and anesthesia staff. According to Defensie Caribisch Gebied, the eight-week program is designed to prepare healthcare professionals for deployment in high-pressure and high-risk environments.

During the final stage of the training in Curaçao, participants were exposed to extreme conditions, including intense heat, physical exhaustion and sleep deprivation. These elements are intended to simulate the realities of military missions, where medical personnel must operate under significant stress and limited resources.

With the successful completion of the program, the specialists are now officially deployable for defense operations. They can be called upon to provide medical care during missions, often in complex and potentially dangerous situations.

Defense officials emphasized that the combination of advanced medical expertise and military training is crucial to ensuring that these professionals can respond effectively in crisis scenarios, both within the Caribbean region and internationally.

The program highlights ongoing efforts to strengthen emergency response capabilities by integrating civilian medical expertise into military operations.
